ABIA STATE GOVERNOR OTTI'S AGENDA: ADDRESSING ECONOMIC REALITIES, GOVERNANCE, AND PRUDENT MANAGEMENT

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti OFR, has unveiled plans to adjust the minimum wage for state workers, aiming to align their salaries with the current economic conditions. During his monthly media chat at Government House, Umuahia, the Governor emphasized the need to address the challenges posed by increased exchange rates, removal of fuel subsidies, and soaring inflation, which have impacted citizens' livelihoods.

Governor Otti clarified that efforts are underway to not only enhance the minimum wage but also improve remuneration across the board. He assured stakeholders of forthcoming announcements regarding these adjustments.

Addressing concerns about retired Permanent Secretaries and Directors, Otti affirmed that outstanding salaries and gratuities would be disbursed. Additionally, he reaffirmed his commitment to settling pension arrears as pledged earlier.

Explaining the situation regarding the Government House, Otti highlighted discrepancies in his predecessor's actions. He revealed that an incomplete building was commissioned, lacking essential amenities for occupation. Meanwhile, the existing Government House suffered from neglect, prompting Otti to temporarily operate from his residence while prioritizing gradual renovations based on the state's financial capacity.

Regarding allegations of exorbitant spending on food, Governor Otti dismissed the claims as baseless and aimed at discrediting ongoing reforms in the state. He emphasized the government's prudent financial management, underscoring their commitment to responsible resource utilization and delivering value to the state.
