Governor Alex Otti of Abia State is set to challenge an ex parte order obtained by former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, which has temporarily halted the probe into alleged looting of government property and funds during Ikpeazu's administration. The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mr. Okey Kanu, expressed concerns about the former governor's attempt to obstruct the panel's work and described the court order as "laughable" and an unwarranted interference in the state's affairs.
Kanu stated that the legal team representing the state is determined to challenge the court order, as they believe it undermines the state's authority to conduct investigations into alleged infractions. He emphasized that if someone is accused of wrongdoing, the best course of action is to face the allegations and prove their innocence.
The commissioner further criticized the former governor's decision to seek the ex parte order from the Federal High Court in Abuja, stating that it amounts to undue interference in the affairs of the state. He assured that the state's legal team will take necessary steps to vacate the order, as it is deemed inappropriate and does not represent sound thinking.
