We would like to address the false news that has been circulating regarding the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs conducting a biometric verification for Traditional Rulers in the State. We want to make it clear that this report is false and misleading.
What the Ministry is actually conducting is a manual enumeration of Traditional Rulers in the State to establish an accurate number.
Currently, there is no reliable and comprehensive database of Traditional Rulers in Abia State. The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs recently met with the Chairmen of the Traditional Rulers Councils in the State and informed them about this initiative. The respected Traditional Rulers in attendance voiced their support and commended the Ministry's efforts.
It is unfortunate that in previous administrations, no proper records were maintained in various areas of public service. The present administration recognizes and values the important role of Traditional Rulers, which is why their stipends have been increased from three percent to five percent. We urge the Traditional Rulers to support the present administration, which is focused on the development of the State.
