ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT PLANS MEGA CITY TRANSFORMATION FOR ABA

The Abia State Government has finalized plans to formulate a new master plan to guide the development of Aba, the state's commercial hub, transforming it into a mega city over the next 30 years. Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, shared this information after the Executive Council meeting led by Governor Dr. Alex Otti.
Aiming to position Aba as a major business hub in the South East region, the commissioner highlighted the significance of the master plan for the city's expansion project. Details of the plan will be disclosed to the public in due course. Additionally, a special committee has been established to oversee the creation of a new commercial core for Aba, focusing on establishing new markets and rebuilding the Ngwa road market (Ahia Ohuru), recently affected by fire.
The State Government also intends to revamp the Enyimba International Stadium, transforming it into a modern facility. To address traffic congestion around the stadium caused by markets, the committee has been tasked with decongesting the Ngwa road market axis.
Regarding the compensation for the second phase of house demolitions on Ossah road, the process has commenced, with affected individuals receiving their compensation. On the issue of land allocation under the previous administration, the GM of Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA), Mr. Kingsley Agomuo, clarified that those facing access issues lack proper documentation and advised them to visit the Ministry of Lands for guidance.
In response to a contaminated stream in Ikwuano LGA, the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna, assured ongoing investigations to identify the contamination source. He cautioned the community to avoid the stream until the inquiry concludes, promising the affected individuals would receive support from the State Government.
