STILL ON THE ABIA STATE N567.2B BUDGET 2024

STILL ON THE ABIA STATE N567.2B BUDGET 2024

Finance expert, Dr. Anthony Nwaubani, writes...

1. I wish to tag this Budget, "A Budget of Infrastructural Repositioning". Let's check it out. The very nature/mix of this Budget on its own, has a lot of positive multiplier effects on the economy.

2. Imagine 84% of the Budget going into Capital Expenditure. It means that Abia State will become one huge construction site. The economic implications are legion for they are many. The Mama Put (road side food vendors) will spring up; Welders, Iron Benders, Masons, Builders, Carpenters, among others, will be in high demand. Civil engineers and contractors will beat their paths to Abia State. Hospitality industry will be on hand to receive them.

3. Our Timber Markets will start to bubble with activities as building materials will also be in high demand. Dredging and quarry sites will become real business grounds as demand for sand, stones, chippings and gravel must look up. This is just a fall out from the nature/mix of the Budget.

4. With bulk of the over N476Billion Capital Expenditure, to be spent on road infrastructure, building and equipping of new schools and hospitals, and with 84% of the entire Budget set for Capital Expenditure, it becomes clear that His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, Governor of Abia State, wants to achieve Fundamental & Sustainable Development driven by Bullish Infrastructure Repositioning. The emphasis is also clear - foundation for human capital development and enhanced quality of life.

5. The economic and socio-economic implications of the Budget proper will be examined in my next Comment on this Budget. Meanwhile, the light of the dawn of our dream Abia State is becoming brighter and brighter to the glory of God.

6. It's big congratulations to His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, for formulating and presenting a Budget as an instrument for Socio-Economic Development.

Best Regards to all

Dr Anthony N. Nwaubani
