It appears that Lagos State's abrupt house demolitions could be interpreted as more than just an official administrative action.
There are concerns over the timing, and it is imperative that the master plan and surveys be shared openly by those in charge to allay any fears of discriminatory acts being taken against particular groups.
A historically peaceful cohabitation seems to be being overshadowed by this circumstance, which seems to be widening internal differences within the community. It is depressing to see prejudice obscure the reality of how this is undermining long-standing ethnic ties that predate political intervention.
The impacted group appears fragmented, which makes it harder for them to stand up to such behaviour as a group. Even though I oppose the demolitions, more unity among those impacted by them might be able to thwart any hidden agendas. Seeing this lack of unity result in betrayal within their own community is upsetting.
