Governor Alex Chioma Otti OFR has consistently stated that upon his victory announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the 2023 gubernatorial election, Abia State would witness a surge in industrial development. Recent events and appointments made by Governor Otti confirm the validity and assurance of this claim.
Since taking office, over 30 notable industries have shown interest in partnering with the Abia State government to establish branches in various areas of the state, including Aba, Umuahia, Arochukwu, Isuikwuato, Uzuakoli, Nvosi, Ohafia, Ndoki, and Abiriba.
These industries, including Dangote (sugar and cement factories), Cubana group (Odogwu Bitters), Innoson Motors, and others, are major participants in Nigeria's private enterprise and hold the potential to significantly increase the employment rate in Abia State by at least 80%.
Noteworthy is the fact that foreign companies from China, Hungary, and the USA have also expressed a keen interest in establishing businesses, particularly in Aba, the commercial hub of the South East region of Nigeria.
Governor Otti's political will and the absence of chauvinism during the courtesy visits by industry leaders have played a pivotal role in attracting these investments. The industrial effect of Governor Alex Chioma Otti's emergence is expected to alleviate the impact of the removal of fuel subsidy and potentially shift the focus of citizens towards a stronger reliance on the industrial sector rather than white-collar jobs.
It is evident to all that the current government in Abia State is resolute in its pursuit of reform and overhaul of ministries, parastatals, and revenue-generation systems. This is necessary due to the level of decadence and misuse of offices by the previous administration.
