During the monthly sanitation exercise in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, residents showed impressive participation. The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, led members of the State Executive Council and other government officials in the exercise. Pastor Ajagba emphasized the commitment of the Dr Alex Otti-led administration to fulfilling its promises and declared a state of emergency on waste management upon assuming office.
The Chief of Staff stressed the importance of active participation in sanitation exercises and assured that the present administration would continue to drive the development of the state. The Commissioner for Environment and Urban Renewal, Mr Philemon Ogbonna, highlighted the significance of a clean environment for healthy living and emphasized the government's commitment to changing the face of the state.
Mr Ogbonna warned that any motor park, market, or business environment found operating during the sanitation period would be sanctioned. The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, stated that members of the State Executive Council were leading by example to encourage Abians to clean their surroundings regularly.
The General Manager of Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, Mr Ogbonnaya Okereke, emphasized the collective responsibility of all citizens in maintaining a clean environment. The Director General of Abia State Orientation Agency, Pastor Dike Nwankwo, mentioned the agency's partnership with the Ministry of Environment and other agencies to promote cleanliness among the people.
Various government officials, including the Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Special Adviser on Security Matters, Senior Special Assistant on Due Process, Special Assistant on Strategic Communication, and security agencies such as the Police, NSCDC, and FRSC, participated in the clean-up exercise.
